A total of 122 top players entered the WSOPC $10,000 National Championship to create a prize pool worth $1.22 million, and after three days of action it was 25-year-old Loni Harwood who would eventually triumph over the field to capture a second career WSOP gold bracelet, as well the tournament’s first place prize of $341,599. Following a victory which she dedicated to her mother under the hashtag #ForMom, Loni also thanked her brother for his support, stating:
“I wanna shout out to my brother, Scott Harwood. He’s one of my best friends. He’s always there for me. He wanted to be here today, but he works and he couldn’t get the day off. He’s been on the virtual rail and I’m sure he’s waiting for a phone call right now.”
Gaining free entry to the special invitational WSOPC National Championship were 100 WSOPC main event winners from the past two years, with the remaining 22 players invited for having finished atop the WSOPC points leaderboard, although they had to pay $10,000 for the privilege.
By the time the final table of seven had been set, Loni Harwood was the table leader with twice the chips of her nearest competitor, and soon she added further to her stack after being dealt A-J and knocking out Paul Mattioda (Q-J) in 7th for $49,203. Harwood (K-9) followed up by eliminating Vincent Moscati (7-6) in 5th for $83,716, before being dealt K-J and doing likewise to Bradley St. Vincent (J-10) in 4th for $111,984.
In the meantime, Alexandru Masek (A-Q) took care of Daniel Negreanu (J-J) in 6th ($63,647), and after his A-J dispatched Darryll Fish (K-J) to the rail in 3rd ($152,402), heads-up play got underway between Harwood and Masek for the bracelet. A tough final battle subsequently ensued, but was brought to a conclusion after Harwood’s pocket threes held against Masek’s A-7 after the dealer laid out an 8-7-3-5-6 board.
